Edit Your Resume Like a Pro
I've been following Penelope Trunk's blog entitled "The Brazen Careerist" and came across one of the best posts on resume writing I've seen in awhile. In fact, I've borrowed a bit of her title for the post here.
Though not her "real" name, Penelope writes some of the most cogent stuff on the web today in the area of careers, specifically, "advice at the intersection of career and life".
Here, she does a great job talking about the importance of putting achievements in your resume. That's not to be confused with all those fake "achievements" - job duties masquerading as an actual accomplishment - that most job seekers like to list.
The bottom line is this: skills don't sell. Employers buy results. So, turn your resume from a laundry list of stuff you've done and create a marketing document. List your results and put them in terms an employer understands.
You'll be glad you did.
